The Adinkra Project
Adinkra are symbols from West Africa (Ghana) that represent concepts or aphorisms. Adinkra are visual representations of Akan culture and philosophy that are used extensively in fabrics, logos, furniture and pottery. Their use has spread to neighboring cultures and is fairly well known across the world.
My interest in Adinkra comes from travel to Africa and Egypt, and from an appreciation of calligraphy and pictorial languages. As in many cases, there is no single English word that captures the full meaning of each Adinkra. So I have provided background on each.
